LATEST SCOOP
Since a prize-winning author can't live on New Yorker magazine checks alone, Alice Munro recently applied for a part-rime sales job at a local Winnipeg department store. LITERARY CIRCUS has obtained a transcript of the job interview:
"What's your background?"
"Writer."
"What do you write?"
"Stories. Novels."
"Ugh. Where?"
"They're mainly published in New York."
"Too far. We sell to a customer base here. Any special qualifications?"
"I won a Nobel Prize."
"Never heard of it. Thank you for your time. NEXT!"
